Allocutio for the November Senatus meeting

Delivered by Susan Maria Nsubuga, the Senatus President

The Medal of the Immaculate Conception called The Miraculous Medal (Appendix 6)

The Miraculous Medal is very special in as far as a Legionary is concerned. It is one of the sacramentals and one of the medals we have in the Catholic Church. It is very special because the Lady herself brought it to us because of the love she has for us as a mother.

Those who wear it around their necks get graces-which is a greatest gift we can receive while on earth. Let’s advise those we meet to always put it on and spread the devotion to our different friends, communities and family.

The aim of the Miraculous Medal is to promote the devotion to the immaculate conception. It is one of the weapons we can use to help us achieve our object as the Legion of Mary-the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation, under ecclesiastical guidance, in Mary’s and the Church’s work of crushing the head of the serpent and advancing the reign of Christ. We should not just put it on BUT with CONFIDENCE.

The Miraculous Medal is part of the Legion of Mary. In our Catena, we say “O Mary Conceived without sin” and in the concluding prayers, we always ask Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces to pray for us. As the Spiritual Reading was stressing it, the legionary is asked to be a living Medal, a humble instrument of Our Lady’s graces to the world.

The Feast of the Miraculous medal is observed on the 27th November. Legionaries are asked to buy medals and give them out while explaining their importance. Praesidia can use money from the secret bag to buy the medals.
